Today we watched a documentary on the rap group, N.W.A. It showed how they came together and how the different members of the group moved on to different labels. The public reaction was mixed, but it cannot be denied that they were the most influential group of their time, creating their own genre: Gangsta Rap. They were criticized for being too graphic and too violent in their lyrics and videos, but they said that their art was a mirror of their reality and that they were only showing the truth to the world. However there were some controversial comments made towards women with song titles such as: "I'd Rather F*** You", "A B**** Iz a B****" and "One Less B****", which left women protesting against having their pornographic songs sold in music shops. MTV originally banned their videos from being shown on TV because they were too violent, when in reality they just disagreed with the message. The group was partially responsible for the LA riots, which caused 64 deaths. The people had signs reading, "No Justice; No Peace"
